In Memoriam
On Monday 23rd January the funeral took place in Dunfermline of Mary Catignani, the longest serving of the SFAA Presidents. Thanks to Sally and Colin Campbell who sent flowers on behalf of the SFAA membership.
Mary was a member of Dunfermline Archers for many years and was well known to all of the older SFAA members.
She competed successfully in major IFAA events and was coach and mentor to many promising young field archers over the years.
Mary ran SFAA Open meetings and AGMs in her own inimitable fashion, which was to the point and no nonsense, and constantly worked to expand the SFAA reputation for innovation and the organising of the largest and best attended tournaments of her time. When the then SFAA president Tom Inglis took ill during EFAC 81 at Beecraigs Mary stepped into the breach and led the SFAA into a new era of international successes.
Having been promised a WFAC site at Pitlochry which never materialised Mary bearded the Duke of Athol in his den, so to speak, and the SFAA put on WFAC 86 at Blair Athol - the legendary one which set the benchmark for every other IFAA nation to try and follow. At Blair Athol in 1993 she oversaw the phenomenal double header of EFAC/ EBHC 93.
By this time Mary had served through twelve terms as SFAA President and was happy to hand the reins over to a new president.
Those of us who knew her well remember her with admiration and affection and offer our heartfelt condolences to Veronica, Irma and Christopher and their families.

The 2 days of the Scottish championships saw some of the best weather we have seen this year and some of the best scores.
There was great atmosphere at Forrest Spirit which was aided by the large turnout the good weather and the high scores.
Many Scottish records fell this weekend Including:
Three archers had to retire this week end through either injury or equipment failure, but in true show of sportsmanship elected to continue with their groups to give them support for the rest of the day so thanks, Martin O'Nions, Jim Wallace and Gordon Birnie for showing respect to your fellow archers.
There was excitement in the male compound freestyle division when Alan Abernethy and Tom Cooper came in tied for second place and went to a shoot off, which Alan won by 1 point.
A huge thank you the team at Forrest Spirit who had prepared the course well and worked tirelessly all weekend behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the shoot.
The kitchen supplied us with some wonderful food and kept us all feed and watered during the 2 hot days, so well done the kitchen staff your efforts were appreciated by all.
We saw three generations of cub walker from the same family over the weekend so thanks Kayleigh, Louise and Alan for looking after our stars of the future.
Our guest's had a weekend to remember enjoying the good atmosphere and friendly completion and vowed to be back next year.
So thank you All for a great championships
William Marr, SFAA President.

We would like to re-introduce regular member meetings to the SFAA.
We have booked the Forth Lodge at the Bonaly Outdoor Centre from 7.30pm on Monday 18th May 2009.
Bonaly Outdoor Centre location.
Bonaly Outdoor Centre site map.
With these meetings we hope to foster greater communication and interaction between the members, board and clubs.
For the first meeting the following draft agenda is proposed. If you have any thoughts for additional items please feel free to send them via the website or speak to any of the directors.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Following the re-arrangement of the 2009 UK and I of I Championships to England we have regrettably decided to cancel the competition at Drum on the 4th and 5th of July 2009.
Details of the background to this have already been sent to members. If you did not receive this communication because your membership had not been renewed at the time please contact the secretary who will be happy to send you a copy.
Full refunds of entry fees will be sent to all members who have already entered the event in Scotland.
For those members not attending the 2009 UK and I of I we intend to arrange a fun shoot on Sunday 5th July, details will be posted shortly.
Sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Ensuring our members are properly insured when shooting at events not organised by the SFAA is of upmost importance. When we introduced the Shooting Outside Scotland form it appears some members have taken this as an intention to control and/ or manipulate shoots they can attend. This was in no way the intention and if it was perceived that way we apologise.
There has also been some constructive feedback on how this process could be improved so, effective immediately, the following apply:
Please note members shooting outside Scotland are subject to the same terms and conditions applied, by the insurer, when they shoot within the SFAA 'environment'.
Hopefully this will simplify things, reducing the number of forms to an absolute minumum while ensuring all our members are properly insured.
To further clarify and avoid any confusion, SFAA members attending the re-arranged UK and I of I in England on the 4th and 5th of July WILL be covered by SFAA insurance and DO NOT require to complete a form.
Thanks to all those who completed forms and provided feedback. We appreciate your patience as we try to strike the right balance. If you have any other comments or suggestions please feel free to submit those through the web site.
Shooting Outside Scotland Form (MS Word Form)Argentina will be having their national elections on the 25th October 2009. Local legislation prevents the hosting of sports events during that day!
The IFAA therefore has accepted a one day change of the event date to:
Opening Ceremony: 21st October 2009
Closing Ceremony : 24th October 2009
Archers who hve already made reservations/bookings and cannot change the booking or can only change the booking with additional costs must please contact the IFAA Secretary.
We have been informed by travel advisors that as from January 12, 2009, travelers without a USA Visa that are intending to stay for less than 90 days must comply with the new ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) system, and are required to obtain travel authorization prior to arriving in the US.
The US Government’s Advisory Statement for ESTA says, “All nationals and citizens of VWP (Visa Waiver Program) countries are required by law to obtain a travel authorization prior to initiating travel to the USA under the VWP. This authorization may be obtained online through ESTA, a free internet application administered by the US Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS), thru a government website.
The website is http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/.
So, archers from countries where the VWP applies should ensure they apply in plenty of time if they are intending to compete at the IFAA WBHC 2009 June 11-14, 2009.
Urgently requested, information from old Bulletins regarding Scottish records for Field, Hunter and Animal Rounds. These must have been shot at an S.F.A.A. National Championship.
Also if you think you have a Scottish Record and can supply proof, either scorecard or old bulletin etc. Then please let me know. This would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks, Andy Logan (logan@alogan.fsworld.co.uk)I've spent the last few weeks creating a new website which makes it easier to find archery equipment for sale on eBay by categorising and filtering the listings.
It's early days yet, but I'd really like to get some feedback on what is there so far.
http://www.archery-equipment-uk.comDo you think the site is useful? What other categories would you like to see?
Please email any thoughts to ebaysite@scottishfieldarchery.co.uk
Thanks, Mike Dodds
